The Staff Accountant will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties for the corporate accounts. Makes sure assigned functions are performed accurately and all tasks are completed in a timely manner. 

Responsibilities

  • Identify significant and unusual accounting and reporting issues within the restaurants and propose solutions to the Supervisory Accountant or Accounting Manager.
  • Reviews Balance Sheet reconciliations of items completed by offshore accounting and completes any additional aspects of the reconciliation for non-store related items every fiscal period.
  • Keep Accounting Manager advised of emerging risks and other issues that may have accounting and reporting consequences.
  • Research and provide variance explanations in support of end of period close, end of quarter close, and end of year.
  • Assist with external and internal audits.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance to policies and accounting guidelines.
  • Prepares entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts and documenting business transactions for all restaurants for review by Accounting Manager.
  • Provide support for Operations and Department Heads within the RSC.
  • Assists in the preparation of all period, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including the Balance Sheet, Income Statement (P&L), and Statement of Cash Flows.
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of new employees.

  • Ability to work with various computer programs and systems. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must work with Microsoft Office and accounting software. Must have good attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as Profit and Loss statements, bank reconciliations, governmental regulations, and financials. Ability to write reports, procedural manuals, and business correspondence. Ability to speak, write, and present information effectively in the English language to store managers, vendors, corporate employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, probability, statistical inference, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general conclusions which includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events.

 

Interdependencies

  • Reports to the Accounting Manager.
  • Advises Restaurant Operations and RSC Department Leaders.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline from a four-year college or university and one to three (1-3) years related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must have experience using Accounting Software
